The all-you-can-drink scene at Danny Buoys ain’t cutting it for you this weekend? And you’re tired of getting soaked in your own sweat at another Club Celebrity dance. This Saturday night sop up some spoken word and positive vibrations as TCI’s resident rhyme sayer Illegal Poet (a.k.a. Audley Astwood) shares the Brayton Hall stage with international neo-soul songbird Wayna.
Illegal Poet’s rhymes put to jazz—the type of smoky-lounge vibe you would expect to appear in a Spike Lee joint—explore the human experience from life’s hardest knocks to the joys and pains love and sex. Ethiopia-born Wayna combines sweet vocals and real life/real love lyrics with early-90s MJB style beats to create her Bilboard chart-topping sound (Check out Wanya’s hip-hop style cover to the Minnie Riperton classic “Lovin’ You”.).
Still not sure you can pull yourself away from the barstool? The chance to hear the latest singles from hip hop team Blakout Crew might give you that extra boost. Orane’s freestyle dance type vocals (think INOJ-Love You Down without the cheesy bass) mixed with Eswann, Trigga Api and Jabba’s more rugged (If G Unit and Cash Money had a West Indian Baby) sound and tossed on chopped-and-screwed homemade beats can get your mind right for an after party. And since the show goes from 8PM to 10PM so you’ll still have time for some carousal and gallivanting before heading home.
Saturday 26 April; British West Indies Collegiate Brayton Hall; 8PM to 10PM; Tickets: $30 Adv…$40 Door… Tickets available at Unicorn Book Store and Graceway IGA Or Win a Ticket and Prizes at Fun World Mini-Golf on Friday 25 April
