BBC Caribbean’s top post today discusses the increased violence throughout the Caribbean region and mentioned an “unflattering portrait of crime and the Caribbean painted by the Economist magazine in its latest issue.” The Economist article, entitled “Sea, Sun, Murder” noted that the Caribbean region is the world’s leader in violent Crime. And mentions the recent gunning-down of 11 people in a Guyana village. This article is timely for the Turks and Caicos (normally recognized for its low crime rate) as violent crimes have seen an increase since 1 Jan New Year 2008.
