Now that they’ve built the longest paved, private jet strip in the Caribbean, Turks and Caicos Sporting Club at Ambergris Cay invited WIV4 NEWS Online over to share their version of utopia with us for a day.
Somewhere between the cool eucalyptus and lemongrass scented towels and tangy seven-juice fruit-punch that greeted us immediately after deplaning, we realized we were in for a treat.
Driven by golf cart, we visited the best lookout spots on the island, including the location for a new spa with a clear ocean view on each side, got a first look at how some homeowners are styling their homes in Le Grand Cottages, sampled the chef’s famous chicken-fried lobster at Calico Jack’s Pavilion and learned about the developments efforts to work with nature through a nature preserve, an iguana relocation programme and evironmental eduction with Ambergris’ resident naturalist. We even had time for a short fishing trip.
With no Catch O’ the Day, unfortunately for us, we had to return to reality (despite bribes and other trickery to convince our hosts to let us camp out). Fortunately for you, however, we’ve scrap-booked our day on Ambergris Cay so you can have a sneak peek too.
Our favourite spot: luxury safari tents, shipped from Africa, nestled in the local flora resemble a postcard sent from the Swiss Family Robinson
